A day on Hydra

Hydra is one of the Saronic Islands in the Aegean Sea. We took a Flying Dolphin hydrofoil from Piraeus, and I managed not to get seasick. No cars or motorized vehicles, other than for trash collection, are allowed on the island. So there are plenty of bikes, donkeys and water taxis. The biggest local past-time seems to be spraying ever-present cats with water when they beg for tourists’ table scraps.

We stopped by the maritime/historic archives museum because I needed to use the facilities. We had to pay the 5 euros to enter, so we had the full tour of firearms, model ships, military uniforms, paintings of cows, a Stradivarius, art created out of cut-up stamps and the embalmed heart of perhaps an admiral. That’s all really just a guess, because all the signage was in Greek. Could have been a gumball museum.
