Ichiban
Brewed by: Kirin Brewery Co., Japan
Style: Pale lager
ABV: 5.0
2 of 5 burps
A Kirin has the body of a deer, the tail of an ox, hooves of a horse and somebody’s horn stuck on its head. Those might be the primary ingredients in the beer named after it, too.
Or maybe they pour the brew into a kirin to handle the filtering.
Whatever end it came out, Ichiban tasted like a Japanese Miller Light. Better known as water.

Comfit’s dramatically lit smart toilet.
But it hit the spot for lunch after hiking around Tokyo all morning hunting for an elusive Godzilla statue (he’ll only show up after you stop looking for him, and he’ll be right over your shoulder); cutting through the crowds at Senso-di Temple, featuring the busiest shopping street, Nakamise-dori; boating through a bridge tour of Sumida-gawa; and strolling through Hamarikyu Garden.
The best part about the Ichiban was that it came with some oodon noodles and a tremendous view of the Rainbow Bridge and Tokyo Bay, as we were sitting in a tea room on the 46th floor of the 51-story Caretta building in Tokyo’s Shiodome prefecture.
Oh, and Comfit had by far my favorite smart toilet of that trip. All the genius a Japanese toiletry, plus dramatic lighting.
Now that’s good stuff.
Tasted at: Comfit, Tokyo, Japan
