Gulden Draak
Brewed by: Brewery Van Steenberge, Ertvelde, Belgium
Style: Belgian dark ale
ABV: 10.7
4.5 out of 5 burps
Love the Gulden Draak bottle and the bulbous, steampunk label. A gorgeous gilded, belching dragon. Made me assume I’d not care for it, while really hoping it would live up to the packaging hype.
It’s a creamy quadruple ale, according to the awesome bottle, that doesn’t taste like its ABV suggests it would. That is, not alcoholy. Just some lingering, bittersweet Norse nostalgia.
Would go great with giant-animal-meat-on-its-giant-animal-bone. Or maybe just some dark chocolate. You definitely need a hat with horns, though. I’m glad mine finally came in handy.
Best confusing-the-facts toast for enjoying this beer: “May you always have bats in your belfry and dragons in your beer.” Or just drink the damn thing.
