The Defender American Stout

The Defender American Stout

Brewed by: Haymarket Pub & Brewery

ABV: 7.5

2.5 out of 5 burps

I can’t find much to say about this one. Just bland and hoppy.

So let’s see … The menu says it’s brewed with copious amounts of roasted barley, chocolate malt and oats. Hopped on Williamette and Chinook, then dry-hopped with Chinook and Amarillo. Flavors of coffee and chocolate complimented by citrus and pine. Complex and intense.

Whatevs. Too bland and hoppy for moi.

Interesting. The Chicagoist’s review of it as a beer of the week lauds it as being “like drinking a Cadbury chocolate Easter egg.” I can’t see that as a selling point, but I haven’t found hoppiness … yet.

Until that day comes, give me the Cadbury egg, and they can take the hoppy bunny beer.

Enjoyed at: Haymarket Pub & Brewery,
Chicago, Ill.
